Information for Tenshinkan U.K. members on Grading Examinations

                                                KYU Gradings:   10th - 4th kyu.

   Throughout each year there are 4 main times for members (Juniors & Seniors) to apply for a Kyu Grading Examination.  

These are:    1.  Last week of March.  This is a Club grading in your normal place of training.

                   2.  Last week of June.  This is the special Summer Gashuku grading for all Clubs at an appointed hall.

                   3.  Last week of September. This is a Club grading in your normal place of training.

                   4.  Last week of November.  This is the special Winter Gashuku grading for all Clubs at an appointed hall.

     If you are unsure about your eligibility to take an examination, either of qualifying lessons or level of skill achieved, then you should in the first instance speak to your Club Instructor who will advise you accordingly.  If you are unsatisfied about his/her decision then you may ask your instructor to approach the Chief Instructor on this matter, but normally your instructor's decision should be accepted.

    Costs of Grading Examinations vary according to the Grade that you may apply for and your current age (juniors), but once again you should consult with your Club Instructor to obtain this information.

 

 

                                                                       KYU Gradings:   3rd - 1st kyu.

     The information above is applicable with the following additions.

      All applicants for brown belt exams from 3rd to 1st Kyu  MUST have a training period of SIX months between each examination.

      From 1st Kyu brown to applying for a SHODAN examination, members MUST have a training qualifying period of ONE YEAR.      (Various SEMINARS throughout the year are also aimed specifically at brown belt members and attendance at these Seminars, while not mandatory, is advisable to attain the relevant standard required for members to achieve success at this level.)

                                                                  DAN Gradings:  1st Dan and above.

     There are only two times each year that members, both Juniors and Seniors, can apply to take a DAN Grading.

These are:   1.  Last week of May.

                  2.  Second last week of November.

      Members should apply in writing on the DAN grade application form, which you will find on the FORMS page of this website, at least one month before the Grading dates.

      All members from 1st Dan and upwards who plan to take a DAN Grading must qualify by attending both Summer and Winter Gashukus as well as all the Brown & Black belt SEMINARS in the previous year.
